On this episode of The Shape of Work podcast, our guest is Dr Surendra Takawale, CEO of Vishvaraj Environment Pvt Ltd, a water and waste management solutions company.

A strong advocate of open communication, Dr Surendra talks about its importance in an organization. Having expertise in leadership and business strategies, he shares his perspectives on what makes a good leader & how to train them. 

In addition, he throws light on the effectiveness of good relationship management, the mental well-being of employees and good employer branding as well.

Factors to be considered while building a team:
When a company is bringing in people to work for, they should focus on team building. Communication should be two-way and open. The company should provide a clear and accurate job description.  All the employees should focus on the company’s goal. They have to be cooperative and contribute towards it. He mentions how he supports risk taking while building a team. He does not believe in working in compartments and encourages different opinions.

People challenges that companies are facing in remote working:

Surendra talks about the slack of social connect employees are having. In his company, they are coming up with new strategies to keep them motivated. They are connected through whatsapp, zoom, and other platforms. They attempt to keep them busy and give them motivation.

All the decisions made in the COMPANY NAME  are made considering the employees. They attempt to understand their requirements and make policies according to that.

The process of resolving issues in an organization:

We feel there should be a clear direction and approach from each team. An organization should prioritize personalities of different teams and figure out how they can work with each other. He also highlights the importance of basic communication and feedback in senior leadership. Feedback can help in making relevant corrections to it. The leaders should also be aware of the authority they are in and the role they have to play. According to him, lack of communication is the major reason behind problems persisting in any organization.

Factors that determine a good leader:

He talks about four factors that make a good leader:
Communication- The leader should know how to communicate the right message at the right place and time.
Vision- The leader should know where the company is and its potential.
Accountability- Everyone is accountable in an organization for the roles they play. Each of the employees, including the leader, are responsible for every outcome of it organization.
Gratitude- One of the most important factors that a good leader should have is the ability to be thankful for what he gets.

Maintaining employee well-being and employer branding:

‘Sorry’ and ‘thanks’- Surendra says that these two words are small but very important. It is important to notice the happenings in the teams. Try to avoid gossips in the team

Surendra’s organization maintains an open door policy in the company where everyone is allowed to come and offer solutions. They try to create a team environment that promotes growth.All the employees consider each other as family and they help them build as a team.
