On this episode of The Shape of Work podcast, our guest is Shuchi Nijhawan, Sr Vice President - Global Human Resources & New Verticals at Eka Software Solutions.
With more than two decades of experience working in the HR fraternity, Shuchi has plenty of expertise to share in this conversation. She discusses with us:
The concept of ‘PlusHR’:
“If you want to be constantly relevant as a business partner, you have to understand the business.”
What is a better way to understand a business than by owning it? That is what ‘PlusHR’ is about. To do this, HR needs to expand its role to multiple tasks across different fields. Shuchi talks about the various roles she performs to understand people better at her workplace. Watching them work live gives her tremendous help to take their career to the next level.
It requires a thought leadership process to make HR more relevant to the business process.
Why do people managers need EQ more than IQ?
Shuchi considers the emotional quotient (EQ) much more valuable in the HR domain than the intelligence quotient (IQ). EQ helps people managers grow in the field. The pandemic is a great example of this concept. The people managers who succeeded in keeping their workplaces stable and going are the ones not defeated by external or internal stress. It has been possible because of the excellent level of EQ they possess or have procured.
Tips for remote work to people managers:
According to her personal experience, Shuchi talks about five practices that can help people managers work better in the remote work scenario:
Is blockchain going to be the future of technology:
Blockchain is a booming technology and will be beneficial. However, Shuchi believes that the surrounding process needs to change with the change in tech. A lot of alterations are required at the ground level. There might be a little trouble accepting it. However, the world will come around to it eventually. If they can accept the openness of social media, this will be accepted too.
Blockchain has the potential to make immutable changes. People are suspicious only because they have not seen its benefits yet.
Degrees VS Experience: what to consider while hiring?
Shuchi feels that degrees should not be a major requirement for hiring. It should also focus on the candidate’s practical experiences and knowledge. Shuchi has a combination of subject matter experts as well as people with diverse backgrounds. It can help in bringing new ideas to the table. To sum up, Shuchi explains that extraordinary people doing extraordinary tasks is natural. The goal should be to make ordinary people accomplish them.
